Description:A question has arisen as to what constitutes the actual sample collected by an aerosol sampler. In the past, the sampler was considered to be simply a filter holder, with the sample being the material that is collected on the filter. More recent considerations of particle size-selective sampling suggest that the sample should include the entire aspiration of particles into the sampler no matter where they come to rest inside the sampler. The following is a discussion of the issues and the current state of the art. [Description provided by NIOSH]
