Description:A sampling and analytical method for chlorinated isocyanuric acids was evaluated. Sodium-dichloroisocyanurate-dihydrate (SDH) and trichloroisocyanuric-acid (87901) (TCA) particulates were collected on a 37 millimeter diameter, 5.0 micron pore size polyvinyl-chloride copolymer membrane filter contained in a three piece, closed face cassette. Samplers were attached to the shirt of the worker at the breathing zone. The filter samples were extracted with water and titrated against sodium-thiosulfate using constant current potentiometry. SDH and TCA standards were also titrated. SDH recovery efficiency ranged from 92.8 to 106 percent. The SDH respirable dust concentrations ranged from 0.04 to 113.9 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3). SDH total dust concentrations ranged from from 0.03 to 0.59mg/m3. TCA total dust concentrations ranged from good linearity. The authors conclude that the titration method will neither separate nor distinguish SDH in the presence of TCA, nor the reverse configuration. [Description provided by NIOSH]
