Description:The relationship between blood lead (7439921) values (PbB) and clinical symptoms of toxicity was investigated. Clinical examinations and blood and urine tests were performed on 160 lead exposed workers from two smelters (SIC-3341) and one chemical factory (SIC-28). PbB values ranged from 0.77 to 13.51 micromoles per liter, and clinical toxicity symptoms were noted in 44 percent of the subjects. The threshold PbB value for clinical toxicity symptoms was 1.93 micromoles per liter. Elevated blood urea nitrogen concentration was associated with long term lead exposure. Renal function abnormalities were found among several workers. The authors recommend that the biological limit for PbB be established between 1.93 and 2.90 micromoles per liter.
