  The mutagenic effects of occupational exposure to industrial chemicals are reviewed. Evidence about the toxicity of vinyl- chloride (75014) (VC) is summarized. The carcinogenicity and mutagenicity of VC is described. The need to investigate the chlorinated hydrocarbons that are structurally similar to VC is emphasized. Genetic effects in humans following occupational exposure to chloroprene (126998) are considered. Sociologic aspects of mutagenic exposures in the workplace also are discussed.
