Description:The toxicity of toluene-diisocyanate (26471625) (TDI) was evaluated. Changes in respiratory rate were measured in mice exposed for 10 to 240 minutes to 0.007 to 2.0 parts per million (ppm) TDI vapor. Cumulative effects were tested in rats exposed to 0.007 to 1.18ppm TDI vapors 3 hours daily for 5 days. The severity of response and speed of recovery were dependent on exposure concentrations and duration of exposure. Repeated exposures to TDI at or above the threshold limit value for industrial exposure to TDI be reduced from the present 0.02ppm to 0.006ppm as a time weighted average and that no exposure above 0.02ppm be permitted.
