Description:A serially additive expected dose model that epidemiologically analyzed carcinogenic agents present in the work environment is discussed. This model is based on the cumulative dose concept and compares the observed exposure of each worker with the exposures of fellow workers close to the worker in year of birth, and in age of commencement of work for the company being studied. Expected and observed exposures are calculated for each worker and exposure levels and duration are taken into consideration. This method is applied to a study of angiosarcomas of the liver and vinyl chloride exposures in a polymerization facility. The authors conclude that this model generates important amounts of information associated with chemical exposures and cancer, including exposure level relationships, latency data, and the synergistic possibility of chemicals.
