Description:Real time measurements of water droplet growth on a natural aerosol were made using a continuous flow thermal diffusion cloud chamber and an optical particle detector. Droplet trajectories were calculated based on temperature and saturation ratios and velocity of the carrier air. Measurements and predictions agreed well when the accepted values of 0.036 for the condensation coefficient and 1.00 for the thermal accommodation coefficient were used. The authors conclude that this measurement method can be used effectively with respirable mineral particulates. [Description provided by NIOSH]
