Description:The design principles and development of a safety management information system are described. The two primary tasks of the system are recording and maintaining accident and safety records for a large business and determining optimum allocations, and utilization of safety resources. The system files, input records, and software utilized by the Integrated Safety Management Information Systems (ISMIS) are described. Accident, statistical analysis, and management decision output reports are discussed. Examples are included to illustrate the system's ability to develop and implement optimum safety inspection plans. [Description provided by NIOSH]
