Description:Oxygen (7782447) consumption and heart rate were measured periodically during 3 levels of static work, and in the recovery phase. Results were fitted to an exponential curve mathematical model. The effects of static work on occupational safety and health were found to be quantifiable and significant. A static work task that is fatigue-causing will result in a non-steady-state condition of oxygen consumption or heart rate. Oxygen debt repayment is found to be the limiting factor in recovery from static work. The rate of increase of heart rate rise time is found to be a significant indication of the intensity of a static task. [Description provided by NIOSH]
