Description:The usefulness and validity of pre-employment lumbar X-ray examinations in the wood and wood products industry are considered in the light of the experience gained during a 4-period. The survey covered 2378 applicants, 16% of which were classified in the high risk group. The results are discussed and compared with those of previous surveys; they do not support the hypothesis that subjects classified as high risk show a significantly greater incidence of low back injury.
