Description:An investigation of whether lay readers could be trained to interpret chest radiographs for coal workers' pneumoconiosis shows that lay readers can be trained for this purpose and are no more prone to interobserver variation than are physicians. The extent of the interobserver variation among experienced readers in the categorization of the films for coal workers' pneumoconiosis was shown to be greater than is commonly realized.
