Description:Radiological and questionnaire investigation of a large group of anthracite and bituminous coal miners revealed 10 cases of pleural calcification and no history of prolonged asbestos (1332214) exposure or significant chest illness. No important factors other than coal dust exposure were identified in the development of pleural calcification. The results suggest that pleural calcification may be associated with coal workers' pneumoconiosis in rare cases but the cause of calcification is uncertain. [Description provided by NIOSH]
