Description:A review is presented of the available information on ferrous foundry effluents produced during melting, pouring and casting shakeout. Topics reviewed are: ferrous casting production; melting furnace emission, including cupola iron melting, electric arc steel melting emissions, electric furnace iron melting emissions, and molding pouring, and shakeout emissions. Certain decomposition products of four types of organic foundry mold resins have been identified by gas chromatography and infrared spectroscopy. A brief assessment is made of the potential effects of various effluents on the health of foundry workers. [Description provided by NIOSH]
