Description:In 2012, Colorado included industry and occupation questions in the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) to learn about and evaluate the relationships between work and health status, prevalence of chronic diseases, and health behaviors. Preliminary analyses of these new data demonstrate that these factors vary by occupation. For example, compared with other occupations, fewer workers in farming, forestry, construction, and extraction jobs reported "always" (94%) or "nearly always" (87%) wearing a seatbelt while driving. A full summary report will soon be published by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Occupational Health and Safety Surveillance Program.
