Description:The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and Occupational Safety and Health Administration jointly developed, under the Standards Completion Program, draft standards to complement certain existing quantitative standards issued under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. An analysis of the standards setting process and the decision logic is presented to explain the rationale for the draft standards that were subsequently developed. Issues addressed by these standards and by this publication consist of environmental sampling strategies; respirator usage; protective clothing requirements; engineering controls; workplace sanitation; training and informing the employee; medical surveillance; and record keeping.
