  Chemical protective clothing (CPC) recommendations were provided in tabular format for each of the chemicals listed in the NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards, June 1997 Edition. The following skin protection designations were discussed: prevent skin contact, frostbite, and no recommendation (NR). The prevent skin contact designation means that there is a potential hazard resulting from dermal exposure. The CPC should provide resistance to permeation, penetration and degradation. The designation of preventing skin contact is also listed for materials that are solids such as dust, powder, flakes, and fibers where there is a potential for either ingestion or inhalation but no significant dermal hazard. The frostbite designation alerts the user to the potential for freezing of the skin from direct contact with the liquefied gas through rapid evaporation. The NR designation means that no recommendation can be made either because the chemical has not been shown to be a dermal hazard or that inadequate information is available.
