  The accomplishments reached during the 1983 fiscal year through the Division of Surveillance, Hazard Evaluations and Field Studies of NIOSH were described. The report was divided into the surveillance program itself, industrywide studies program, and the health hazard evaluations program. The surveillance program included the National Occupational Hazard Survey/Exposure Survey, Surveillance Cooperative Agreements between NIOSH and States (SCANS), Sentinel Health Events (Occupational), the list of the ten leading work related diseases and injuries, and the use of computer generated maps in occupational hazard and mortality surveillance. The Industrywide Studies program conducted 29 planned projects, and initiated feasibility assessments for 37 projects. The Health Hazard Evaluation Program conducted 435 site visits, and completed 460 Hazard Evaluation and Technical Assistance reports. This annual report included project summaries and lists of publications and speeches for each program area.
