Description:An experimental study on auxiliary ventilation and air dispersed particulates in the stopes of an Italian talc mine was described. A sampling technique and suitable apparatus were developed. A series of tests confirmed the virtual absence of asbestos (1332214) fibers. On the basis of extensive sampling, a correlation was identified between a scheme of auxiliary ventilation at various flow rates and dust concentration. A good efficiency of the exhaust auxiliary system, as compared with the blowing system, was observed. This was due to more rapid removal of particles from the workplace, a reduction in air dispersed dust, and the absence of secondary dust production. The authors conclude that the results of the tests on auxiliary ventilation systems allowed for the identification of major features of the talc (14807966) mining facility which could provide acceptable environmental conditions. The exhaust ventilation system is preferred in cases where there is a significant difference between face and level air flow temperature.
