Description:An investigation was conducted to determine whether there is a possible relationship between the X-ray changes, the number of asbestos (1332214) bodies and the level of serum immunoglobulins in a group of 52 asbestos workers. The workers were divided into three groups: group-1 was directly exposed to asbestos, with radiographic changes suggesting asbestosis; group-2 was directly exposed to asbestos but had no X-ray changes; and group-3 was not directly involved in the process of production. No connection between asbestos bodies was noted in the sputum, radiographic changes, or the immunological status in the evaluated workers. The results indicated a statistically important increase in the level of immunoglobulin-G (IgG) in group-1, compared to group 2, as well as group-3. There was a significantly larger number of workers with radiographic change suggesting asbestosis in whom the level of IgG was above normal.
