Description:A new computed radiographic system was presented which was based on the most recent technological developments. The system eliminated the drawbacks of conventional radiography by combining digital image processing and the Imaging Plate as an X-ray sensor. The Computed Radiography (CR) system consisted of five major units: X-ray image sensor (temporarily stores to X-ray energy pattern), image reader (converts the latent image into digital time series signals), image processor (manipulates the image digitally to provide radiographs), image recorder (records the processed signals on film by scanning laser beam), and image filing (stores the radiographic image digitally by use of reversible or irreversible data compression technique). The authors conclude that this system may replace the conventional screen film system in the field of diagnostics. The new system reduces the dosage requirement, provides clear and wide latitude X-ray image suitable for accurate diagnosis, and offers easy normalization of image quality by computer image processing.
