Description:A walk through survey was made at Advance Plating Company, Ft. Worth, Texas, to evaluate the control methods in place at this facility. The company was engaged in decorative chrome plating of automobile and truck parts and welded wire products. A buffing and polishing operation was also run within the facility. There was one plating line with two nickel tanks, one chromium tank, two pretreatment tanks, and several rinse tanks. Engineering controls at this facility included general dilution ventilation with doors open for all but 2 months of the year. A 5 foot window exhaust fan was in operation at the time of the visit. Four other fans were used for air cooling. A mist suppressant was used to control chromic-acid (1333820) mists. Safety glasses and a paper dust mask were used by the polisher. No other protective equipment was used at the facility. Five persons were employed at this site, only one of whom was a polisher. The author does not recommend this site for an in depth control technology study, unless there is some future interest in evaluation of mist suppressants.
