Description:This fourth workshop dealing with the topic of environmental and occupational cancer studies opened with the presentation of four papers falling in the category of experimental studies: biochemical, pharmacological and tumorigenic studies on a composite of drinking water carcinogens and mutagens using aquatic animals; registry of tumors in lower animals; the influence of disulfiram (97778) or ethanol (64175) of 1,2-dichloroethane (107062) carcinogenicity; and the fractionation and analysis of asphalt (8052424) fumes for carcinogenicity testing. The session on epidemiology concerned itself with mortality studies of workers in the painting trades, chrome leather tannery workers, workers exposed to formaldehyde (50000), auto workers, workers exposed to hydrazines, and occupational exposures to organotins. The third session discussed experimental studies including work on the metabolism of 4,4'-methylene-bis (2-chloroaniline) (95512) in explant cultures of human and dog bladder and dog liver cell cultures, the characterization and validation of carcinogen induced transformation of human cells in-vitro, and the transformation assays of established cell lines. The final session discussed risk factors for mesothelioma, body burdens of toxic substances, and a wrap up of the conference.
