Description:Plans are described for a second National Occupational Hazard Survey by NIOSH to determine national patterns of occupational exposure to health hazards. Methodologies for the survey will be similar to those used in the National Occupational Hazard Survey of 1972 to 1974. Planned modifications in survey forms, data processing systems, programs, procedures, and information dissemination are discussed. The sample will include about 5,000 facilities representing a wide range of industry types, facility sizes, and geographical locations, and will be constructed to allow development of national exposure estimates. The survey will be conducted by 21 specially trained industrial hygienists, beginning in fiscal year 1981 and lasting for about 2 years. The author concludes that the second National Occupational Hazard Survey will help NIOSH determine priorities for action by providing current information on nationwide patterns of occupational exposure to health hazards.
