Description:An air sampling method for acetone-cyanohydrin (75865) was developed. Air samples were collected on sorbent tubes containing analyte porapak QS, desorbed with ethyl-acetate (1.0, 10.0, and 50 micrograms in 5, 10, or 25 microliters of solvent), and analyzed by gas chromatography using a nitrogen phosphorous detector and teflon column packed with 5 percent OV-17 on chromosorb T. The method was evaluated by collecting 1 to 50 micrograms acetone cyanohydrin at which sample tubes were exposed to humid air (80 percent humidity). In the range 0.33 to 16.7 milligrams per cubic meter the pooled relative standard deviation for the total sampling was 9.3 percent. At least 12 liters of humid air was sampled without acetone cyanohydrin breakthrough. There was no statistical difference at the 95 percent confidence level between the averages for the two groups of storage samples (1 day samples stored at ambient temperatures, 5 and 7 day samples at 0 degrees C).
