Description:The finding of a study of knee pad requirements for miners are summarized. Available literature and statistics on knee injuries are reviewed along with the costs and protective characteristics of selected currently available protective knee pads. Anthropomorphic data is included for average miner populations. Performance specifications are outlined for the outer shell, inner cushion, and fastening device of the knee pad. Three prototype designs are included.
