Description:Worker exposures to carbon-disulfide (75150) (CS2) were surveyed in the cellophane/clysar department at the Clinton, Iowa facility of E.I. duPont de Nemours and Company, Incorporated (SIC-3079) on August 31 and September 1, 1977 and March 20 to 23, 1978. About 1,000 workers were employed in the department. Personnel records, work processes, medical services, and control methods were reviewed. Personal and area air samples were collected in several areas to determine CS2 exposures. Average 8 hour time weighted average CS2 exposures ranged from 2.39 to 6.99 parts per million (ppm) for the eight jobs categories surveyed. General area time weighed average CS2 concentrations ranged from 2.28 to 11.75ppm. Hydrogen-sulfide (7783064) concentrations in the casting and coagulating bath areas averaged 0.29ppm. The author concludes that CS2 and hydrogen- sulfide exposures at this facility do not pose significant hazards. Recommendations are included for continued use of respirators and periodic personal exposure monitoring.
