  Worker exposures to airborne mineral wool fibers, total particulate material and respirable particulate material were determined at Forty-Eight Insulations, Inc., (SIC-3296) at Aurora, Illinois, on June 1 to 3, 1977. The facility employed approximately 100 workers, 70 of which were potentially exposed to mineral wool. The company maintained a medical program and medical services were furnished by a local clinic. Fiber counts, determined by optical microscopy, ranged from less than 0.002 fibers per cubic centimeter (f/cc) to airborne particles above the recommended NIOSH standard of 3f/cc were found. The author recommends that a full industrial hygiene and safety engineering survey be performed and that the extent of past exposure to asbestos and mineral wool fibers be determined.
