  The occupational health protection team is analyzed, including the roles, coordination and qualifications of the physician, nurse and industrial hygienist. Medical approaches to the control of the occupational environment are outlined as well as the role of therapy in occupational medicine. Opportunities for research in the practice of occupational health are shown. The special qualifications of the physician specialist in industry are given, including understanding preventive medicine, the pathophysiology of human response to environmental change, and understanding manufacturing processes. The position of the physician in the management-labor relationship is clarified. The medical approaches to control of the occupational environment include the medical examination procedure, the pre-placement and pre-employment examinations, the periodic health examination and other examinations. The use and limitation of the epidemiologic method are discussed.
