  Personal protective devices are considered to be last resort types of controls, to be used only where engineering controls cannot be used or are not adequate. Information is given on selection and correct manner of use of equipment for protection against inhalation hazards, including where used, approval systems and schedules, particle-removing air purifying respirators, gas and vapor-removing air purifying respirators, atmosphere supplying respirators, worker acceptance, training, heat, communications, and a respirator program for industry. The use of ear plugs and ear muffs for protection against noise is discussed, and information is given on equipment for protection of skin and body against contamination, corrosive chemicals, skin penetration, heat and cold.
