  The development of gas chromatography has made possible applications in toxicology and industrial hygiene which hitherto have been tedious or impossible because of the small quantities involved. Theoretical aspects of the technique are reviewed, and the components of the gas chromatograph, the carrier gas system, simple injection system, column, solid supports, liquid phase, adsorbents, detectors, temperature, recording devices and collection systems are described. Qualitative and quantitative analyses are possible; operation of the gas chromatograph, calibration, and some special techniques are described briefly.
