General ventilation should achieve comfortable working conditions, while local ventilation should remove contaminants at the point of emission or dispersion. Hood and exhaust duct design and losses from the system are described. Types of fans are listed, with consideration given to fan laws and system curves. Fan selection and noise vibration control are also discussed. The necessity for make- up air, the equipment, heating of the air, and duct design are discussed.
