Description:Industrial solid waste sources are classified as extractive, basic, and conversion and fabricating industries. The wastes generated by these industries are increasingly complex, with fewer features in common. Waste control approaches are considered in relation to the source rather than the composition of the waste. The roles of public agencies, industry, and public education are discussed. The public agencies have the aim of protecting public health, attaining environmental objectives, implementing conservation policies and overcoming economic constraints, while industries are concerned with reducing waste and the economic options open to them.
