Description:The indicating instrument of an Industrial Sound Level Meter (ISLM) should respond to the root mean square of its input signal for its response to be directly proportional to the energy content of measured noise. Reference test requirements and an ISLM square law characteristic test are presented, noting the necessary equipment, procedures, and calculations and analysis. Square law characteristics, equipment serial numbers, computer programs, a description of the soundproof enclosure and calculations of ISLM readings are included in an appendix.
