Description:Field surveys were developed and completed to accumulate data on machine guarding by on-site facility inspection. The fact that many companies are not using existing standards and that approximately one third of all machines observed were unguarded is evidence that machine guarding is used less than required. Machines and machine operations are found to be hazardous to workers and there is a definite need for guarding. Woodworking machines, metalworking machines, and power transmission devices are included. (Contract No. 099-73-0071)
