Description:The exposure of children to particulate lead (7439921) from industrial sources is reviewed. Data are given on increased lead absorption in children living near a lead smelter in El Paso, Texas, and other mechanisms of exposure are discussed including through parents working near industrial particulate lead, in utero and exposure of germ cells before conception. Also discussed are health consequences of childhood lead exposure, hematologic, neurologic and renal consequences. Results of the studies reviewed are extrapolated to the consequences to children living in cities and near highways who are exposed to particulate lead from automobiles.
