Description:A comprehensive industrial hygiene survey was carried out of both the fibrous glass and vitreous china operations at the Kohler Company (SIC-3211), in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Fiber count and total dust analysis revealed that fibrous glass exposure was low, but exposure to styrene (100425) monomer, and silica dust exposure in the various operations generally exceeded the present OSHA standards. Poor ventilation was a cause of high silica (7631869) dust levels in the air. Slip bath operators in the vitreous china operations and router and sander operators in the fibrous glass operations were exposed to noise levels in excess of current OSHA standards and are not wearing protection.
