Description:A NIOSH health hazard evaluation determination is presented for Arco Polymer Incorporated of Sinclair-Koppers Company, Incorporated, a styrene (100425) monomer production facility. Topics include: process description, evaluation design, evaluation methods, evaluation criteria, results, and recommendations. Hazardous exposures to toxic substances and/or noise are found to exist for employees in the following forms at the following areas: noise and tricalcium-phosphate dust in the Dylite-Dylene reactor and screening areas, coal dust in the power house, fly ash in the fly ash silo, and benzene (71432) in the styrene laboratory. Data are tabulated for charcoal tube samples, detector tube samples, instantaneous dust samples, sound level measurements, and miscellaneous sampling. [Description provided by NIOSH]
