Description:Medical evidence obtained during the study of retail meat wrappers, indicates that air contaminants generated by the thermal cutting of polyvinyl-chloride (9002862) packaging films during the wrapping of meat are potentially toxic to some employees, as demonstrated by the large frequency of eye, nose and throat irritation. Pulmonary function tests in a population of meat wrappers reveals no gross pulmonary effects as compared to a control population after one workshift of meat wrapping. [Description provided by NIOSH]
