Description:Evaluation of hazards from exposure to diesel and gasoline engine exhaust gases emanating from an indoor loading dock facility in an electronics company. Exhaust gas emissions evaluated include carbon- monoxide (630080), nitric-oxide, and nitrogen-dioxide (10102440), the 8-hour time weighted average concentrations of which are indicated as 50, 25, and 5 ppm respectively. Environmental and medical investigations show that the gases are not toxic at the concentrations measured. Symptoms of gas poisoning include neurologic changes, headaches, dizziness, hemorrhage in the kidney, spleen or liver, blood poisoning, impaired senses, nausea, vertigo and alazia. Safety measures include installation of improved ventilation control, strict control of truck engine running time, and modification of the new exhaust system to afford adequate control of emissions.
