• Description:
  Exposure to chromic-acid (7738945) as found in the nickel-chrome plating department of a plating corporation is found to be excessive. Symptoms include chronic rhinorrhea, sneezing, nasal sores, blood in the nasal mucous, frequent nosebleeds, and skin eruptions. Long term exposure to low levels of hexavalent chromium (7440473) in the work room atmosphere, direct contact of affected nasal tissues with hexavalent chromium, or a combination of both is considered the causative factor. Safety recommendations include strict warning about the safe usage of chromic acid, development of a safety program, proper use of protective gear, maintenance of general and personal hygiene, and refraining from eating, drinking and smoking in work areas.
