  Evaluation of concentrations of toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (584849) and methylene di-(4-phenylisocyanate) as adhesives during the manufacture of yard fences reveals isocyanates are not at toxic levels, due to adequate natural ventilation. Prior to the NIOSH evaluation, the process was conducted indoors with poor ventilation, resulting in sensitization of several workers. It is recommended that sensitized individuals avoid all contact with isocyanates to prevent pulmonary reactions. Isocyanates should be used only with adequate down-draft ventilation and proper protective clothing. [Description provided by NIOSH]
