Description:Analysis of personal air samples taken at a basic oxygen furnace of a steel mill indicates that nuisance dust in the breathing zone of workers in the basic oxygen furnace stock house and the basic oxygen furnace lime stations are at a concentration that could be toxic. Recommendations are made for the elimination of excessive exposure to lime dust and to dust created by the handling of scrap metals. Data are given for iron (7439896), magnesium (7439954), calcium (7440702), and carbon (7440440) concentrations in the air. [Description provided by NIOSH]
