Description:Environmental survey, toxicity determination, and medical evaluation of employees in the Lucite room of an electrical company, regarding exposures to fumes generated from nylon screens through heat of soldering irons, indicate that potential emitted gases, ammonia (7664417), carbon monoxide (630080), and methylamine (74895), are not toxic at the concentrations measured. The fumes generated are determined to have an unpleasant odor, suggestions are given for relocation of the work to tables near a window until local ventilation is installed. Use of the nylon screens will be phased out, with substitution by polyvinyl chloride (9002862) dividers which can be fused at room temperature. [Description provided by NIOSH]
