Description:Emissions from the treatment of blast furnace iron (7439896) with magnesium (7439954) impregnated coke are not found to be toxic to groundmen or crane operators, based on measured concentrations of carbon-monoxide (630080), nitrogen-oxides, sulfur-dioxide (7446095), and airborne particulates. A recommendation is made that the process be performed in the charging aisle next to the slag skimmer and not in the pits at the hot metal station, to reduce the safety hazard associated with splashes of molten metal.
