Description:The exposure of varnish room workers to petroleum-naphtha (8030306), xylenes (1330207), toluene (108883), methyl-ethyl-ketone (78933), and styrene (100425) vapors is not found to be toxic at 500 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 200 ppm, and 100 ppm respectively in a label printing plant (SIC-2751). Evaporation of the compounds is increased at higher temperatures and re-evaluation of work area conditions by management is considered necessary during summer. Symptoms of adverse effects on the employees consist of eye irritation. Recommendations include proper maintenance of the system of exhaust and other ventilation. [Description provided by NIOSH]
