Description:Based on environmental and other measurements, a potential health hazard from vinyl-chloride (75014) is determined to exist in the extrusion area in a plastics manufacturing company (SIC-3079). NIOSH recommends that the employer reduce airborne concentrations of vinyl-chloride to levels not detectable by the recommended method, and that any employee exposed to measurable concentrations of vinyl- chloride should wear an air supplied respirator or other NIOSH- approved respirator. The federal standard of 1.0 ppm is not applicable since NIOSH does not approve any threshold limit for carcinogenesis. Vinyl-chloride is suspected as an etiological agent in the development of angiosarcoma of the liver. [Description provided by NIOSH]
