Description:Environmental evaluations conducted by NIOSH investigators and lack of medical symptomatology and toxicity information indicate that employees in the core room of a foundry engaged in the manufacture of a variety of tools (SIC-3546) are not exposed to toxic concentrations of triethylamine (121448) because of adopted work practices. However, triethylamine concentrations are potentially toxic in the immediate vicinity of the one core blow machine used for this cold box process. This is also true of free silica (7631869). Potentially toxic concentrations of free silica were found in the immediate vicinity of the bucket elevator, but not in the operator's breathing zone.
