Description:Based on the results of an observational and environmental evaluation conducted by NIOSH in the coating department of a fiber and container manufacturing plant (SIC-3221), it has been determined that atmospheric concentrations of methyl-ethyl-ketone (78933), toluene (108883), xylene (1330207), carbon-monoxide (630080), and carbon-dioxide (124389) exposures were not present in concentrations hazardous to employees. However, the use of solvents for cleaning rolls without proper skin protection can cause dermatitis, and thus, constitutes a potential health hazard. The use of impermeable gloves should alleviate this problem. [Description provided by NIOSH]
