Description:Veneer dryer emissions, principally abietic (514103) and pimaric acids (127275), and alpha and beta-pinene (1330161) present in the vicinity of the veneer dryer operations (SIC-2436) under usual working conditions may cause transient irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and throat as well as the upper respiratory tract, producing cough and chest discomfort. Comparison of pre-shift and post-shift pulmonary function tests revealed small but statistically significant decrements in expiratory flow rates over the course of the usual work shift.
