Description:The existence of a possible toxic exposure to sulfuric-acid (7647101) and aqueous hydrogen-chloride (7664939), mists, manifested by severe irritation to conjunctiva and the epithelium of the upper respiratory tract, resulting from ruptured electrolyte transporting lines or ventilation duct displacement during pressure vessel depressurization, is indicated by results of a hazards survey in the Electrochemical Drilling Unit of the General Electric Corporation (SIC-4911), Evendale, Ohio. The need for a more comprehensive survey is indicated. Recommendations include installation of visible gauges or audible alarm or pressure activated devices to indicate or insure the maintenance of the required air velocity, and the establishment of a preventive maintenance program involving scheduled replacement of electrolyte transporting lines.
